Established in 1980 under the Travancore - Cochin Literary and Charitable Societies Act, 1955, the Peermade Development Society (PDS) is a social service organisation of the Diocese of Kanjirapally. With a broad humanitarian and philanthropic outlook, PDS strives to improve quality of life for the tribals, poor, marginalized farmers, women and children.

In association with the Spices Board India, PDS also promotes organic cultivation of spices in India. PDS has already carved a niche for itself in the international market.

 

Since its first shipment of organic spices in 1998, its export volume has shown an incredible growth. Today PDS enjoys the status of being the foremost exporter of organic black pepper and white pepper. The largest exporter of organic spice from India, PDS has won the recognition of spice importers in  USA, Germany and Netherlands.

 

The spices grown and certified as per EEC Regulation No. 2092/91 and subsequent amendments are at par with the legal requirements of USA, Argentina, Switzerland and other importing countries

 

Area of operation:  

 

At present Idukki, Kottayam, and Ernakulam districts of Kerala state, and Chickamangalur district of Karnataka State are in the organic farming project. There are 1106 farms owned by small, marginal and tribal farmers certified organic. An active internal control system headed by a post graduate degree holder in Agricultural Sciences is in place to ensure quality organic production.

PDS is commited to the Socio economic development of small, marginal and tribal farmers.

  • Declared as Centre for excellence by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India.

  • Acts as Resource Center and Nodal Agency for South India for CAPART, an organization in the Government of India’s Ministry for Rural Areas and Employment.

Works hand in hand with the Spices Board India to promote organic spice cultivation and export.
